Nicholas Dille discovered his passion for it at the age of eight when his parents bought the first computer initially intended for his dad. After enduring DOS and GEM for some time, he developed an ever growing interest in the internals and the inner workings of computers and servers. All of this made him realize that the studies of Computer Science at the University of Bonn focusing on computer networks would be the next logical step.
For over 20 years, Nicholas is concerned with automation as well as virtualization on all layers and is very passionate about containerization. Currently, he is a DevOps Engineer at Haufe Group, a digital media group based in Freiburg, Germany. In this role he maintains services for development teams covering all steps in the DevOps process. Before that, he has been working as an IT architect for end-user computing and infrastructure services - for Makro Factory and sepago. Nicholas has excelled in many large enterprise projects by providing strategic market insights as well as by designing and implementing large scale environments.
In his community blog, Nicholas writes articles about topics from his expertise since 2007. He speaks regularly at community events and he has co-authored three books about Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012, in Windows Server 2012 R2 and in Windows Server 2016 in German. In 2020 he has published a German video course teaching Kubernetes to beginners together with heise Academy. The collaboration with heise Academy continues and Nicholas hold regular trainings teaching containerization, Kubernetes, observability, security as well as GitLab. For more information, check out the list of community and professional events.
His passion for technology and his community activity was recognized by Microsoft from 2010 to 2023 when he was first awarded Most Valuable Professional (MVP) for Remote Desktop Services / Enterprise Mobility and later for several years as MVP for Cloud and Datacenter Management. Since March 2017, Docker recognizes his community contributions and includes him in the Docker Captains Program.
Nicholas was a founder and a member of the organizing team for x-celerate - a developer conference taking place in Freiburg, Germany from 2017 to 2019. The events focused on Continuous Delivery and Infrastructure as Code.
